Hi, I'm Liz.

My journey into the nonprofit world and Christian community development has been one of dreams, faith, doubts, and surprises. Through it all, my faith in Christ and His example of loving and valuing those on the margins has always been the guiding Presence I have strived to faithfully follow.

I began my professional career studying nutrition and dietetics. This may seem an unexpected beginning to a grant writing and nonprofit career, but I picked up some vital skills applicable to grant writing during my dietetics training, in addition to learning about basic nutrition and physiology. In my undergraduate courses and clinical training, I learned how to research issues I cared about, evaluate sources, meticulously summarize my findings in a clear and coherent way, and partner with clients to reach the goals most important to them.

I spent many years as first a student and then a registered dietitian looking out onto the suffering in the world and wondering how I could help. In my nutrition courses, I learned mostly how to help individuals with their nutrition-related health problems, but God gave me a deep desire to help whole communities overcome the barriers that prevented them from living the flourishing life they were made to have.

From an early age, I gravitated to writing. As a child I was convinced that I would one day become an author. This dream, it seems, never died - it just morphed into another form. My affinity for written words came back to me in graduate school studying Christian international community development as I wrote weekly papers, then my thesis, and finally a mock grant proposal for my grant writing course. I could see that this was a way I could impact the world I had come to love in all its contradicting display of beauty, diversity, and brokenness.

Since that time, I have sharpened my grant writing skills through thousands of words of grant proposals and further training in a grant writing course, and I am ready to share what I have learned with you. I would be honored to assist you in spreading the world-changing good that your organization is poised to inspire, if only you could find the funding.
